Our Lovely Logan

Writer: Valhalla Rescue CenterValhalla Rescue Center

Logan was one of many dogs that we saved from a family that lived near the rescue. Many of our readers know Freya’s story, the sweet little girl left on a chain to die. After her came two large pit bulls that we helped the family rehome (for their good), and then came two little puppies, these people could not stop getting dogs!

Three adults and twelve kids are all living in one 2-bedroom rundown house, and no one works! Now let's throw as few dogs into the mix and see what happens.

The last two little puppies were very small, too small to put on a chain. So, they were left to roam around the property. Many times, these two little ones found their way under my truck, hiding from one of the 12 kids who were hell-bent on carrying them under one arm all around the yard like a rag doll. VRC workers kept a close eye on the pups and the kids offering little tips and tricks on how best to hold or play with the little puppies.

One day the family was gone, and VRC staff found the puppies wandering around the street all alone. Staff went over and picked them up and put them into a crate. Once the puppies were safe, staff walked over to the house where there was an eviction notice attached to the lightly open front door. VRC staff pushed open the door and called out, “Hello is anyone home?”

Staff walked around inside the house; it was empty. The family had moved out and abandoned the puppies. The puppies were taken to the rescue and placed with a foster family.

Three weeks went by, and on a cold fall afternoon, one of the family members showed up at the rescue accusing workers of stealing their puppies! VRC management informed the man that the puppies were left behind at an abandoned residence, with no food and no water or shelter, the puppies were also running loose in the streets. VRC informed the man that in this case many laws were broken by the family and the family told the man that he and his family should move on and forget about the puppies. The man replied, “I guess they ran off, oh well.” Both puppies were adopted soon after this instance.

Months later one of the puppies, Logan, was returned due to no fault of his own. One day while VRC staff was taking Logan out for a walk Staff heard a familiar voice call out: “That’s my dog, why did y'all steal my dog?”

Staff informed the man that this dog wasn’t stolen, it was found abandoned in the streets, and that whoever abandoned it would be charged with animal abandonment and cruelty charges, if the owner was ever found. The man took another long look at Logan and then looked back at VRC staff and said, “That’s not the same dog I don’t think.” Everyone parted ways.

A few weeks later Logan had his first meet and greet with a young man and his family. After a few meets and walks with Logan and the family mini poodle, we all knew it was a match!

Logan now loves snuggling on the couch with his dad, plays well with his four-legged brother Finn, and loves lots of sloppy kisses to his one-year-old human sister. The VRC teams get photo and video updates on Logan and all his adventures every week! We are so happy to see him in his forever home!
