One hot summer day, we were out front of the rescue doing some yard work when we saw her. She was following behind two homeless men walking across a busy highway. The two men and the little dog crossed the street and headed down a side street, then disappeared.
The rescue workers went back to cleaning and yard work. Moments later, the two men and the dog appeared again, crossing across the busy highway and walking down another side road just before us.
I yelled out to them: "Is that your dog?"
"No!" One of the men shouted back. "It’s just been following us around."
I could see now she had been not only following these guys around all day in the hot sun but she was also dragging a leash with her.
The men asked us if we would take her, as they knew about our rescue and thought we could help. So, we went over and picked up the little dog who seemed to be struggling. We could tell she wasn’t feeling well, so off to the vet she went. After some fluids and antibiotics and a few good nights on a warm couch, she made a miraculous improvement.
Not long after she found an amazing family to adopt her! They send us pictures and updates regularly. We could not have asked for a better family for the sweet little girl.
They named her Junie. She is the light of their world and they are hers! The new family and this cute little dog do everything together, including trick-or-treating on Halloween! Junie dressed as a busy little bumblebee because of how fast she zips around the yard.
